How to get started
You will find getting involved at Heart & Hand to be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life!
The first step toward becoming a volunteer is to fill out a volunteer application. Then one of our staff will contact you to set up an interview and a tour of Heart & Hand’s Program Center or Thrift Store. After the interview you will be invited to a weekly orientation and training (the OT) meeting.
At our OT Meeting you’ll get a chance to learn more about the programs and services of Heart & Hand, plus what you can expect as a volunteer.

QuALIFICATIONS
- Volunteers need to be at least 16 years old, or between the ages of 13-15 with a parent
- All volunteers should be able to safely and independently perform all role requirements in training
- A mature, respectful attitude is required
- All volunteers should be comfortable and competent to make quick decisions in stressful situations
- An active email address is required

- Begin by filling out the volunteer interest form/application on the website. You will be contacted by a member of staff who will schedule a tour of the facility and give you an overview of volunteer opportunities.
2. What do volunteers do at Heart & Hand?
- We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities. From volunteer box truck drivers, day center assistants, food pantry helpers, clothing sorters, electronics testers, admin support and more.
3. Is there training?
- Yes! Before you begin volunteering we will invite you to a training and orientation and then the area manager will train you for your specific volunteer role.
4. How old do I have to be to volunteer?
- We accept volunteers as young as 13 if they are volunteering with a parent and 16 with a parent's permission.
5. Are there opportunities for court ordered community service?
- Yes. We are happy to help you fulfill community service requirements. When you fill out your application check the communtiy service check box.
6. Do I have to be a member of a church?
- No. We have volunteers from many different faith backgrounds and those without.
